Five automation rules every team should set up

Five small rules that remove the most repetitive work, with the trigger, the condition and the action for each.

Automation does not have to be clever to be valuable. The best rules are small, boring and save someone five minutes, many times a week. These are the five we recommend to every new team.

1. Welcome new teammates

When a person joins the workspace, then send a short welcome message with the three links they need on day one.

2. Nudge stale items

When an item has not changed for seven days and it is still open, then ask its owner for a one-line update.

3. Route urgent requests

When a request is marked urgent, then assign it to whoever is on call and notify them once.

4. Close the loop with customers

When a support item is completed, then send the customer a short confirmation.

5. Send the weekly report

When it is Friday at 16:00, then share the live report with the team channel.

Start with one rule, watch the run log for a week, and only then add the next. Every rule in Northlane keeps a log of each run, so you can always see what it did and why.
